Cantor Ministry at St. John’s

As a cantor you will lead people in prayer through music. You will sing the assembly through difficult times and times of joy. The cantor will help the assembly enter more fully into the mystery of God.

In the month of October, two of our Sunday Masses will have both a Psalmist and a Cantor. The Psalmist leads the singing of scripture from the ambo. All of scripture is holy and inspired by God. The psalms tell the stories and share the emotions of the people who lived them, our ancestors!

The Cantor is actually the role model for the assembly. The goal of the cantor for the ordinary of the Mass is to bring the assembly into full song so that the only thing necessary is a simple gesture to begin. Cantors then lead the songs and hymns for the day.
